Happy Thanksgiving Everyone and a little news....

We have recently been informed that after our Orphanage ran a radio ad over the weekend, someone called our O director, he said he is a relative of Silas' birth mother. He confirmed that Marie had gone to the Dominican Republic earlier this year, but returned to Haiti in September. He said she was very ill upon her return and died 4 short days later.
So sad. It is heartbreaking to think of the choices mothers face every day in Haiti along with the poverty and disease. We will remember her in our home as a very courageous woman who made a choice for her son that I am sure was very difficult. We will do everything we can to honor her request by providing a loving, caring home for Silas.
We do not have any other information.
We are waiting to hear if the family obtained a death certificate after she died. If they did then I am thinking that will add to our case that establishes his orphan status. Unfortunately, a lot of people in Haiti do not rush out to get a death certificate when someone dies. I am sure partly due to travel and it costs money to get one. If they did not get one and one is issued now - I am not sure how that will be perceived by the USCIS. We are praying and seeking wise counsel.
I will post when I know more.

We are so thankful for all of your prayers. We have literally felt carried through these last couple weeks. We think we have a good plan of action and also a lot of people who have offered help. We anticipate a favorable decision by the USCIS.
Silas will come home when it is time - until then we are trusting and thanking God for all He has done for our family.
God is good!

Love to all and Happy Thanksgiving!

I am saddened to hear this news about Silas' Birth Mother....
We discovered the same thing this week about Marley's Birth Mom and I have been feeling so sad, yet even more resolved to honor her wishes for a better life for her Daughter....
I truly hope that this will all work out in the coming days with USCIS.
We hope that you all have a Happy Thanksgiving.....
Love ya,

I am sure you will grieve for silas too.
I really hope knowing this information helps you with USCIS. May they have a heart with your situation and the many others who are fighting to bring their children home.

Lori,
You know you are on my heart gal.
I just know that someday in Heaven we will be looking back at the craziness of our adoptions and say "Oh Lord! Now we understand!" He will work this for good......He always does. It is always when it looks like there is no possible HUMAN solution that He appears in a mighty way. I am so proud to be your friend Lori, your faith is an inspiration to me.
All my love,
ELicia

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm sorry to hear about the news of Silas' mother. I am thinking that the record of her death may be in the National Archives. Recently my girl's birth certificates had to be requested/extracted for the adoption. My understanding is the event is recored (births and deaths) although most Haitians are too poor to request formal certificates.

You and your family continue to be in my prayers...

Marta
