As this Mother’s Day comes to a close, I am sitting and thinking of the 143 million children in the world who do not have a mother at this moment. Because of our family connection to Haiti – I specifically think of the more than 400,000 children in Haiti that do not have a Mom to care for them. How many are crying themselves to sleep right now? How many are going to bed hungry? How many are sleeping in a tent or on the street or on a bed made of cinder blocks?
I have spent this day – so thankful that all of our children are at home, but I can’t get the faces of all the others out of my mind. We believe God has strongly instructed us to not forget – to do something. The need is overwhelming, but we have a big God. It is time to start…..God will direct our steps.
The Titus Task has partnered with World Orphans and the Haiti Orphan Relief Team. We are proud “adopters” of a Haitian Church that is caring for orphans.
From the HORTwebsite:
The Haiti Orphan Relief Team (HORT) is an amazing collaboration of disaster response experts and U.S. based orphan care and advocacy organizations. The goal of HORT is to identify, train and resource Haitian churches to be the direct rescue and care mechanism for Haiti's hundreds of thousands of orphans. This is truly the most effective and scalable response to a need of such great complexity and magnitude. The primary goal is to better enable Haitian churches to reunite or keep children within extended family structures. For children that have no other options, HORT will help Haitian churches to provide direct care in home environments, not institutional orphanages.U.S. churches are also part of the solution and are being recruited by HORT to come alongside these Haitian churches in church-to-church partnerships to initiate, strengthen and grow their outreach to orphans in their immediate communities. These partnerships will also work towards the self-sustainability of the orphan rescue and care efforts in Haiti.
The Titus Task partner church is MEBCH. The church is in Port au Prince Haiti and is running an orphanage and a school. There are 70 children in the school, 25 of which are orphans. There are more children sleeping in tents by the church waiting for someone to help them. There is no clean drinking water in this area. The church desires to build a medical clinic to serve the needs of the people in the area. We believe this is a great opportunity to show love to our neighbor. We are excited to build relationships with the people of MEBCH. Noel and I desire to lead short term mission trips to Haiti, to build relationships, show love to these children, and provide for our brothers and sisters in Haiti as God directs. We know that God’s heart is to set the lonely in families….we do not know what the future of adoption from Haiti will be, but pray that we would get to see some of these children we will come to know and love find families. Please see the attached church profile for more information about the Orphan and Vulnerable Child Program. We hope many of you will join us! This is a great way for personal involvement in caring for an orphan. We will be able to send our supporters pictures of the children we are caring for, and updates on prayer requests and specific needs.
After speaking with World Orphans about a possible partnership with The Titus Task, I got a little nervous about the commitment of $1000 a month. I wondered where it would come from…then while sitting in the comfort of our home at the computer, sipping hot coffee with nearly every comfort possible – Noel and I decided in prayer to step out in faith. We are not sure where the money will come from! Isn’t that exciting??? It is a God opportunity – He is working behind the scenes, touching hearts, moving people to give or maybe even sacrifice something to provide for one of His precious ones. Is it you?
We need people who will give $25, $50, or more a month – for a one year commitment. Our target date for the first gift is June 1st.
The other exciting opportunity we have is to GO. Our first trip will be led by a World Orphans staff person. It is possible to make our first trip at the end of June if we can get 10 people together for our team. It will be a 5 day trip – hopefully a Friday to Tuesday. We will be in Haiti 3 full days. This trip will be about relationship building. We will be focusing on getting to know the people of the church and loving the kids. It will be an opportunity for us to see the needs first hand. Subsequent trips will likely be longer and focused on meeting specific needs such as medical, building, etc. The cost will be approximately $1200 per person. Please email or call Lori immediately if interested in joining us – 479.238.8955 or 479.236.8955, tuglor@centurytel.net.
Summary:
PRAY – Please prayerfully consider if God is leading you to partner with us in supporting the orphans in Haiti. We need your prayers for the financial commitment and certainly the people of Haiti need our prayers. We know the power of prayer and think it is crucial to have a team that we can commission to pray for specific requests.
GIVE - We are praying for 40 people to give $25 a month for one year ($300/yr) or 20 people who will give $50 a month ($600/yr) - or a combination of above. It will be SIMPLE! World Orphans will accept all donations from their website – a code will be given for The Titus Task. A person can make a onetime donation or set up monthly withdrawals. Please email me at tuglor@centurytel.net if you are one of the people God is using to provide for this need.
GO – Maybe God is calling you to GO! Noel just read me a great quote from a book we are reading…."if you want to see God move, you need to make a move." 3 days in Haiti will certainly give us new perspective and desire to Love our Neighbor.
Looking forward to watching God work!
Love to all.
Until they all have homes,
Noel and Lori
